Family Dollar, 4285 Kathleen Rd, Lakeland
October 30, 2019

A theft occurred at the Family Dollar Store at 4285 Kathleen Road in Lakeland on October 6th.

At about 3:30pm, a woman entered the store, grabbed thirteen 16GB SanDisk media cards, and fled the store without paying.

The suspect is described as being a black female in her 20s. She was wearing a do-rag on her head, but the most recognizable thing about her was the green HUSTLE jacket she was wearing. The jacket also had the letter H on the left breast.

 

Theft, 7-Eleven, 4975 South Florida Ave, Lakeland
October 29, 2019

On Saturday, October 26th, a man and woman walked into the 7-Eleven convenience store at 4975 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland and went their separate ways within the store.

The woman was acting a bit suspicious though, and after a few minutes she reunited with the man and both walked out of the store.

A review of security video showed exactly why the woman was putting off that suspicious vibe…she was stuffing a large number of Pre-Paid phone cards into her bag. The woman then took several phone chargers and put those into her bag as well.

The couple left together in a newer model white Hyundai.

Detectives Looking for Suspect in Homicide

Below is a composite sketch of the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting that killed a 19-year-old man on Monday afternoon. The suspect sought is described as a black male, 18 - 25 years of age, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
On Monday, October 21, 2019, at approximately 3:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to Cambridge Cove Apartments, located at 1700 Cambridge Cove Pass, in reference to a shooting. Once on scene, they found a 19-year-old male in the parking lot that had been shot, with critical injuries. Lakeland Fire Department and Polk Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and began providing medical support. At 4:13 p.m., the victim was declared deceased by on-scene medical personnel.

According to witnesses, the victim, who was from out of town, was meeting someone in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Detectives believe that the victim knew his assailant; however, no suspect has been confirmed at this time.

 
 


Attempted Murder, Dawn Heights, Lakeland
October 22, 2019

34-year-old Marlon Tyrone Burgess wanted for attempted murder

Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for an attempted murder suspect: 34-year-old Marlon Tyrone Burgess is at large and is wanted for the attempted murder shooting of another man around midnight last night in the Dawn Heights Drive area in Lakeland. According to information gathered and witness and victim statements, Burgess shot a 20-year-old man after they met at another location in Winter Haven and Burgess drove the two of them to the area. The two got out of the car and then Burgess shot him multiple times. They have known each other for about 3 or 4 months. The two were arguing according to the victim. The victim is in an area hospital in stable condition.

Burgess fled the scene in a 2013 white Dodge Challenger with a red stripe down the middle of the top of the vehicle (see attached photo). He may still be using the Dodge Challenger. Burgess is likely armed and is considered dangerous. His address is unknown. Burgess was released from Florida State Prison in April of this year after serving a 15 year sentence for robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Theft, Family Dollar, 1090 Pipkin Rd West, Lakeland
October 18, 2019

Polk County detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying a retail theft suspect.

At 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10th, the suspect entered the Family Dollar store at 1090 Pipkin Road W. in Lakeland.

He placed five containers of laundry detergent in a basket and left the store without paying. The suspect was observed leaving the scene in a maroon SUV (unknown make and model).

The suspect appears to be a white male in his late 20's or 30’s, goatee, and prominent tattoos on both shoulders.

Theft, Publix Road and Lewellyn Road , Lakeland
October 16, 2019

On September 13th, a car burglary was reported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in the area of Publix Road and Lewellyn Road in northwest Lakeland.

During that burglary, a backpack stolen from the vehicle, and that backpack contained a silver Surface Pro, iPad 3, and iPhone 8. A Glock 42 had also been taken from the vehicle.

A resident nearby told the detective that he had seen a light blue or silver Dodge Avenger pull up to the victim’s property.
A man jumped over the victim’s fence, then a short time later, jumped back over the fence with a black backpack. That man got back into the Avenger where two women were waiting.
The resident said that the man was black, and the two women were white.

The Dodge Avenger was captured on security video from a home in the neighborhood.

Vehicle Burglaries, Bartow
October 16, 2019

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Bartow Police Department are investigating several car burglaries in the same area of Bartow, all located around Lyle Parkway near North Broadway Avenue. These burglaries occurred in late September and early October.

Some of the burglaries have been committed within the city limits, while some were committed outside of the city limits.

As of now, we don’t have much evidence to work with. Bartow PD shared with PCSO some still images from security video, in which the suspects can be seen.

Grand Theft, Walmart, Winter Haven
October 14, 2019

During the early morning hours of Thursday, October 3rd, a man walked into the Mulberry Walmart and began gathering up expensive merchandise.

He managed to steal more than $2,000 worth of items and fled.

The man was witnessed hopping into a silver or gray Nissan Altima or Maxima.

The images show the man as he entered the store at about 3:04 a.m.

Robberies (2) Winter Haven
October 13, 2019

The PCSO Robbery Unit is investigating two armed business robberies that occurred in Winter Haven during the early morning hours, committed by the same three suspects.

Preliminary information so far is as follows:

Around 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2019, an armed robbery occurred at the Citgo gas station located at 2415 Avenue G NW in the Inwood area of Winter Haven in unincorporated Polk County. The three suspects went into the store and robbed the clerk, then fled in an unknown direction. All three had their faces covered and were wearing gloves. Two of the three were armed.

A second armed robbery occurred at 6:50 a.m. at the Marathon gas station located at 2600 Havendale Blvd in the Auburndale/Winter Haven area of unincorporated Polk County. A review of video surveillance shows the same three suspects.

The suspects are described as:

A black male, approximately 5'6" to 5'8" tall, wearing a dark-colored hoodie, blue shorts, black and white nylon leggings, and Converse sneakers. He was armed with a chrome handgun, and carrying a multi-colored backpack.

A black male, approximately 5'8" to 5'10" tall, wearing white gloves and carrying a blue backpack. He was not armed.

An unknown race male, approximately 5'6" to 5'8" all, wearing black pants, a blue hoodie, and wearing a blue latex glove on his left hand and a white glove on his right hand. He was armed with a black pistol.
